This, the final episode in Masaki Kobayashi"s Kwaidan (1965), is a story in which a writer/narrator (Osamu Takizawa) recounts the tale of Kannai (Kanemon Nakamura), a samurai who notices something strange when he goes to drink a cup of tea. Namely the reflection of another person, not his own, on the surface of the liquid!

Kannai gets totally freaked out when the apparition appears in full three-dimensional form that evening. And things get even more bizarre when three other spirit warriors materialize and Kannai's sword strokes prove totally ineffective against them as well.
