ACF 603: Asian Cult Cinema magazine has ceased publication

Asian Cult Cinema magazine has ceased publication after nearly eighteen years. This is a significant loss for fans of Asian cinema.

I've been intending to write this blog entry for some time, but this development really hit me hard. Much of my personal identity is associated with A.C.C. I also had been really looking forward to writing a retrospective column in what would have been the spring 2010 issue, an issue that would have marked ten years of writing for the magazine.

As a writer since 2000 and a columnist since 2001, I had received advance notice from publisher Thomas Weisser way back on January 2nd. His email indicated that I should ignore the original deadline for the next issue since the currrent issue (#64 shown above) would be the last. He also requested I hold off writing about this on my blog for the time being.

In March, Tom issued a public statement that personal family obligations necessitated that he and his wife Yuko cease publication and to at least temporarily relocate in Japan. At that point I was free to write about publication of A.C.C. ending, but I just haven't had the heart to do so until now.

The Asian Cult Cinema e-commerce site continues to operate. So you can still order DVDs, books, and available back issues of the magazine. See the link that always is available in the right-hand column of this blog.

My writing for Asian Cult Cinema and particularly being a columnist were things that I have been and always will be extremely be proud of doing. For that reason, I will continue to include my association with the magazine in my bio info on this blog.
